From their demos in the late '90s to the fever of work from 2016 onward, this Finnish entity has created a vast and magickal world like no other. Naturally, it should come as no surprise given that mainman V-Khaoz is an incredibly prolific veteran of the black metal underground during the past 25 years, and concurrently numbers the likes of VARGRAV, EMBRYONIC SLUMBER, and GRIEVE among his endeavors. With DRUADAN FOREST, however, the emphasis has always been on atmosphere and its transportative qualities. Whether the medium is ominous, titanic-gait black metal, cosmic ambient, pure dungeon synth, or some symbiosis of those, it matters not: the story - and the voyage - from this realm to another is paramount. Such is again the case with Portals, as elegantly simple of a title as there is to be found. Here, DRUADAN FOREST dons a dazzling robe of interstellar ambient glittering with jewels of a most distant hue. No words be spoken, no guitars need strummed; the glacial float through galaxies is the focus here. For those who argue that "nothing happens" in ambient music are perhaps overlooking the form's most crucial construct: the FREEDOM for nothing to literally happen, to go where you want and how you want - and to have NOTHING be in the way. V-Khaoz keenly understands this, and with Portals indeed opens them up to dreamers and stargazers and all lost souls who might be looking for their dungeon in space. Or, perhaps the album's component song titles spell out the path: "Ethereal Eternity Reflects the Images of Vast Eerie Pasts," "In Between Transcendence and True Sleep," and "The Infinite Forest of Galaxies" during just the first half...

Highly anticipated third album of Stenchy US Doom Detah Metal! DRUID LORD return with Relics of the Dead . Wisely sticking to the same formula as its celebrated predecessor - lurching-tank riffs, lurking-dread atmosphere, completely skull-crushing production - here do DRUID LORD render their third album a more concise counterpart that, somehow, also finds them at their doomiest. The leads still linger like funeral fog, the sense of space even wider (and eerier) than before, and the slo-mo riffs surprisingly catchy, but the eight-song/46-minute runtime makes the cinematic effect feel more compact. Of course, it's DRUID LORD and there's no compromise in their titanic doom-death, but the spellbinding acoustic interlude "Nightside Conjuring" chills to the fucking bone while the outro "Ethereal Decay" is likewise aptly titled - small, thoroughly thought-through developments from a band continually at the height of their powers. If Grotesque Offerings was a mini-classic in the making, harkening the arrival of the new doom-death lords, then Relics of the Dead is DRUID LORD's grand coronation!

Debut album reissue from the Thrash Metal band from Finland! One of Finland's hottest newcomers, EXCUSE began to make a name for themselves with the second, Goddess Injustice. Release to critical acclaim in 2016, Goddess Injustice largely introduced the fierce foursome to the international metal underground - with a nuclear-powered bang! A finely honed missile of speed metal majesty, EXCUSE's sound on that EP in many ways recalled the classic Canadian gods Sacrifice and Razor, but there were hints of greater glories to come. And at last, they've arrived with the presciently titled Prophets From the Occultic Cosmos. Whereas Goddess Injustice suggested some darkly melodic leanings, EXCUSE's first full-length expands that arsenal considerably. Here, the six songs comprising Prophets From the Occultic Cosmos stretch out to epic lengths - one even hitting double digits, the climactic 10-minute closer "Watchtower of the Trans-Dimensional Pathway" - and take the listener on a wild, winding ride. The evil 'n' sleazy surge on which EXCUSE made their name still exists, but has now been finessed into a wholly more dynamic beast, able to reflect haunting moodiness and spacey horror alike. Suitably, co-guitarist Oskar Lindström's vocals have a conspicuous amount of echo placed upon them, suggesting the inter-dimensional struggles of a narrator literally lost in space. Likewise, fellow guitarist Anselmi Ahopalo's leads take center stage here and weave an almost storytelling aspect, much in the way that classic heavy metal songwriting should, evoking both triumph and tragedy but remaining equally hummable throughout. Completing the totality is album's production, which locates the perfect balance between grit and gleam.

Canadian DM power-trio of W.D. (Dead Soul Alliance, Evolution Fail), K.F.(Töteblut) & Jo "Steel" Capitalicide ( Ice War) on vocals! EXPUNGED is the brainchild of death metal master W.D., who's previously handled the axe in Dead Soul Alliance and Evolution Fail stretching as far back as the mid '90s. While W.D. is the songwriter, K.F. joined on drums (from old-school death metallers Töteblut) while J.S. (AKA Jo "Steel" Capitalicide from Ice War) is on vocal and lyrical duties as well as handling the bass, with the latter showing how versatile his singing abilities can somehow be. Formed in the spring of 2019, this Canadian power-trio proved how deadly their brand of downtuned HM-2-style death metal could be with their self-titled debut EP. EXPUNGED have upped the catchiness here whilst not once softening that molten crush. Similarly, while the grime of Expunged still courses through the album's viscous veins, there's a decidedly darker atmosphere being conjured across Into Never Shall, vividly matched by the gorgeously moody cover artwork courtesy of French fantasy novel painter Didier Normand. Above all, this debut album underlines EXPUNGED's commitment to death metal classicism, reverent but never regressionist, and displays the power-trio's own take on it. Which is all to say nothing of yet another CRUSHING (and totally DIY) production courtesy of Top Das (Fuck The Facts) at his Apartment Two Studio. If the tank crush of Expunged somehow missed you last year, there's simply no way to avoid the onslaught of EXPUNGED's Into Never Shall. Absolutely mandatory for maniacs of Nirvana 2002, Carnage, and especially Bolt Thrower!

Along the way and over the course of three albums and numerous EPs, HOUR OF 13 have built a formidable discography that's amassed a fanatic following awaiting each spooky 'n' somber offering Davis and his rotating cast of cohorts creates.

Demos & rarities collection from thee immortal HOUR OF 13. Across this massive collection, one will find HOUR OF 13's very first steps into doom metal godhood, alongside alternate recordings of fan favorites. Listening to Salt The Dead: The Rare And Unreleased, it becomes quickly apparent that something truly special was being birthed upon the band's first recorded notes. The first half of this collection - or sides A and B of the double-vinyl edition - comprise demos recorded in 2007. The first three songs were the very first written by HOUR OF 13 in November 2006 and then recorded not long after; the next five songs were recorded nearly a year later. Together, these eight songs would form the foundation of the band's now-classic debut album, released by SHADOW KINGDOM as Hour of 13. Although recognizably HOUR OF 13, these early demo versions of the debut album's songs have slightly different arrangements while others have slightly different vocals, but every single bit of the band's trademark atmosphere is plentiful and poignant. Verily, this is the sound of lingering incense and burning blood. During the second half of Salt The Dead: The Rare And Unreleased, we find a number of alternate recordings, some with special circumstances surrounding them. On side C is an alternate full-band recording of "Call To Satan," recorded at the HOUR OF 13 rehearsal spot, alongside an alternate version of "The Rites of Samhain" with fully correct lyric placement and vocals by mainman Chad Davis. But most poignantly is the song "Upon Black Wings We Die," written and recorded within a matter of a few hours upon hearing the news of the passing of Jason McCash from The Gates Of Slumber. On side D are the complete Candlemass Eve Recordings, the second rehearsal with Beaten Back to Pure's Ben Hogg on vocals: all recorded in a single session on a Zoom H2 microphone in the room, captured here with a newfound energy and stirring vocal performance. Feel the ancient atmosphere of early metal rehearsal rooms of yesteryear here! As founder Chad Davis states in the liner notes to Salt The Dead: The Rare And Unreleased, "This album documents the times and tribulations that had shrouded HOUR OF 13, the early days of rejuvenation along with the dark days of contemplation, and serve as a testament of an entity capable of withstanding any obstacle in its path." So far, the definitive HOUR OF 13 collection - and the cultest. Praise Him and enter the abyss!

Debut album of archaic and anarchic splendor of late '70s and early '80s Canadian HEAVY METAL A longtime veteran of the metal and punk undergrounds, ICE WAR is the work of the ultra-prolific Jo Capitalicide. The band had its roots in 2011, under the moniker Iron Dogs, who released two cult albums on Iron Bonehead Productions, before changing the moniker to ICE WAR for its debut 7" EP in 2015, Battle Zone. Now flying solo, Capitalicide quickly set to work and released three more EPs over the next year and a half, and further refined his vision of a genuinely ancient heavy metal attack.

A long-overdue reissue of INCANTATION’s cult-classic sixth album! One of the most important bands ever to emerge in the death metal genre, INCANTATION is often imitated but never equaled. HELLS HEADBANGERS has worked extensively with the band in the past and in recent years on deluxe vinyl editions of such classic albums as Mortal Throne of Nazarene (1994) and Diabolical Conquest (1998) as well as a wide range of merchandise, and now the label unearths the band’s long-out-of-print sixth album, Blasphemy. Featuring the fruitful power-trio lineup of founding guitarist (and eventual vocalist) John McEntee, bassist Joe Lombard (RIP), and longtime drummer Kyle Severn, Blasphemy was released in 2002 and showed a lean & mean INCANTATION, one perhaps more in tune with their primitive beginnings and certainly one which could explore filthy labyrinths of sound. That Profanatica founder (and early INCANTATION member) Paul Ledney did the unforgettable cover art underlining the truly dark and underground-minded feel of this record, which sadly was mishandled by the two labels originally handling its release.
